Batmobile Cake

My son Devan has his 17th birthday coming up on Christmas day. So of course Dad has to make him a cool cake. We decided on the Batmobile. First time I have done a 3-D car cake. I would be lying if I said I wasn't nervous. But overall  think it turned out quite good.

Super Mario Birthday

Another repeat customer who originally asked for as Thomas the Train cake (I've got to do one of those some time) but then was informed by her son that 4 years old was too old for Thomas the Train. The new theme was Super Mario. Cake is lemon with lemon meringue pudding filling. Mario and giant mushroom are rice krispie treats covered in fondant. All other decorations are fondant as well.

My Own Birthday

Well, when you're a cake decorator you kind of have to make your own birthday cake. I can just hear the comments if I posted a photo of my own cake from Costco or Safeway. So here it is. My first attempt at a cake of Star Trek's USS Enterprise. Being a true Trekkie, I am not happy with all the inaccuracies on this cake. On the good side though, I already know how I would fix most of them. Cake is chocolate with chocolate buttercream icing and a peanut butter buttercream filling.

A Fall Wedding

This bride's idea for a fall wedding cake was fantastic. Fall leaves, pumpkins, acorns and twigs added some great color to a basic white cake. The cakes are as follows: Base - Butter Pecan with a vanilla buttercream filling. Middle - Pumpkin Spice with a maple cream cheese filling. Top - Red Velvet with a cream cheese filling. Another cake that goes on my "fun to make" list. All decorations, including the twigs, were a fondant/gumpaste mix.

Another Barbie Cake

For a lady's 3 year old grand-daughter, another Barbie lover. She told me her uncle was also giving her a remote control barbie car. I'm guessing she had a great birthday. The cake is french vanilla with a strawberry cream cheese and fresh strawberry filling.

Harley Davidson Birthday

Some cakes are just fun to do. I had a real blast doing this orange flame on black fondant Harley Davidson cake. My client supplied the motorcycle and H-D logo for this, her grandson's birthday cake. The cake is red velvet with cream cheese filling.

Violin Cake

This cake was for my father-in-law's 71st birthday. What makes it extra special is that he is fighting lung cancer. He has played the violin since he was a boy. He loved the cake but more importantly, he loved having the entire family with him in the hospital to share it with him.

Yo Gabba Gabba Cake

This cake was for a repeat customer who previously ordered a Waybuloo cake. Bit of a funny story, the name on this cake is wrong. Mom gave me the wrong child's name. Thankfully she remembered before the cake was to be picked up and I was able to correct the oversight. It cracked me up. Sometimes our kids names can just kind of run together in our heads.

Like in times past I had no idea what a Yo Gabba Gabba was until I got the order for this cake. The characters were a lot of fun to make

In the continuing effort to provide City Blends coffee house with cupcakes that no one can resist, even kids, tonight I produced these superhero cupcakes. I also did some whoopie pies for the grown ups that are crazy about the red velvet and cream cheese goodies.

Black and White Wedding Cake

My latest wedding cake is my first more traditional wedding cake. Gumpaste flowers and black ribbon on a white cake with black fondant dots. I am really pleased with how the flowers turned out.

I am including a photo of the bride and groom with their cake. Keep in mind, this was done months after their wedding in Las Vegas which explains the lack of wedding dress and tuxedo.

Lay's Barbecue Potato Chips Cake

For a lady who loves Lay's Barbecue chips. In case you're wondering, the chips are a fondant and gumpaste mix that were then hand-painted with edible paint. This one was fun. I love a new challenge.

Princess Cake 3

I'm starting to get pretty good at this one, after three tries I better be don't you think? This one will be featured at a birthday party at Twister's Gym in Abbotsford.

Barbie Cake

My first Barbie cake for two of the sweetest little twin girls I have ever seen. Cake is chocolate and all the accents are fondant and gumpaste, even Barbie's dress.

A Flowery Birthday Cake

My mother-in-law asked me to make a cake for a friend 's birthday. This is what I came up with. The flowers are all gumpaste, the only inedible parts are the ribbon and the wires fastening the flowers all together. The cake is a red velvet with a chocolate cream cheese filling. I still need work on my ruffling and string work as it is all still pretty new to me.

A "passed out" Wedding Cake

This is my third wedding cake , second this month. The bride specifically requested the fondant figures of a passed out bride and groom. The wine bottles are plastic but everything else is edible. Cake is red velvet with raspberry filling on the top and bottom levels and chocolate filling on the middle level.

Louis Vuitton, the sequel.

Last week, as you know if you follow this blog,  I did a Louis Vuitton cake for my daughter's 19th birthday. In less than a week it brought me this cake. A different color scheme and a purse added but otherwise the same cake. I actually tried to say no to this cake as I was working on a wedding cake this week, but some ladies can be very persistent.

A Louis Vuitton Birthday.

For my daughter's 19th birthday. This is probably the only way she will be able to say that her Dad ever gave her anything Louis Vuitton for her birthday. Cake is lemon with a lemon zest whipped cream filling.

Princess cake #2

This is my second request for the princess pillow cake, and I think I improved on it some this time. Let me know what you think. Everything is edible except the tiara.
